  5. @Bama, Dockaul, Mehfil..thanks for stopping by...

I wish we could have the coffee/chai and golgappas as well :-) but thanks for the thought. I agree with Doc that it is meeting all you great folks in the srgmp forum that is presently the most brightest spot in my otherwise mundane existance LOL. There is always something new, something interesting in the posts in these blogs.
It started off as a music blog (as the blog title says !!) but it is becoming a hangout for a lot of interesting topics to talk about. Ya.. a nukkad indeed :-) Remember the Kundan Shah serial "Nukkad" on DD ?? Every character in that serial had problems but life was fun in the "bade sheher ki ek gali mein basa hua hai Nukkad !"

    @Mehfil
The Runa Laila ghazal is awesome..and the NFAK is already featured in the "World Music" section ! I hope you upload more from your collection to esnips.. pls give the link to your esnips khazaana.

@Bama - I added one of your song requests in the "Vividh Bharti" section. I'll get the others soon. Hope you are able to play the songs.. Also check out the Ghazal section.. I've added a Muzaffar Ali composition that also has some Bengali verses.. hope someone can help us in decipheirng that.

  6. @Senty,

When SRGMP was coming to an end, I was worried about our forum. It has now become part of our daily routine to check posts and reply them. You have really done a great job to facilitate this reunion of the fellow bloggers. And this Nukkad is simply amazing. I would like to be a part of the "Nukkad" sabha.

Senty, do you have the audio for the kawwali "Chadhta Soorah dheere dheere dhalta hai, dhal jayega" ? Its lyrics are mind blowing and tells us about the reality of life. I would request you to please post the link for it, if you have.

Another feather in your cap, great job. I wish if this was a real Cafe where we all could sit together and talk about music, movies and books just like college days.

    @Bama,
Those are great lines. Keep it up, that makes Cafe talk more interesting.

    @Mehfil,
Lagta hai aap is Cafe mai chai ka lutaf lahe rahe hai. This Nukkad reminds me of "Irani corner cafe" in Bombay.

Thanks for giving us a glimpse of Zehra Nigah's poetry. I had not come across her work before.

  9. @Reka,

Not a day goes by when I do not check the blog for new posts and feel like adding a few remarks, atleast twice or thrice a day, I check ofr newer posts, this one triggered a reply !

Oh those irani cafes, there was one on linking road near national college, I do not know if it is in existence anymore, bombay changes faces like the color of dusk. those tables with white marble top and that uniue tea with extra sugar and some kinda addictive masala, you HAD to drink that tea no matter what !

thanks for reminding me of that. Also I have a feeling that bama is also an Aquarius !

    @Bama,
gal, language is No barrier, it really doesn't matter what langauge you speak, there is always a common ground and common touch, we are all Indians, that is the COMMON touch here ! Your song selection is interesting, kinda 60s, but come to think of it, we do not have music based on the decades, like you can 60's and 70's like the english music, we should have a collection like that. Besides, Senty is almost at the verge of losing her Job, maybe she can do it in her spare time after the Job Hunt !!! hehehehehe

@Senty. YOU ARE HIRED ! If you ever. ever. ever get fired , you have a Job in chicago, so worry mut karo yaar, Bindas raho, YOU HAVE FRIENDS and CONNECTIONS ! Kiya diabetes per research karna hai ? say it man, abhi rekha ko bol kar lagwa denge noukri FIKAR NOT !

Ok so I have a few songs, should I email them to you ? No they are not on any esnips, I'll mail them tonite. Alsomake it mandatory for bloggers to mention their zodiac sign, It make sit easy for Rekha !! heheheheheheh

I'm Kidding, I'm Not into stars and sign, but somehow I feel that Not all signs like to share blog. I hope I'm wrong. I know for a fact that Aquarians does ! am I right Rekha ? Dockaul ?

And what about Irani cafe "samosa"? I got soooo sick one time eating the samosa there. After that incidence, I was done with Irani Cafe experience.

About Zodiac signs, I have been reminded so many times by people around me that I am very partial to Aquarians.
(Actually, I am but I do not why?)

May be we should ask Bama if she is Aqua...

Ya, Senty is welcome to join me any time but all of you IT professionals are so smart ki "diabetes" pur research karne mai do din mai boriyat mahsoos karo ge.

  11. Hi friends !

Aap sab logon mein ek baat common hai ki aap sab India se baahar rahte hain, lekin mein India mein hi hoon. So I am feeling somewhat out of place here. I hope you all do not mind my petty writings. I am new to blogging and have written blogs for the first time in my life only on the SRGMP forum.

I am also not a big reader or movie goer, because here in India, I have an entirely different kind of life style. Though I was interested in books since I was in fourth standard, but I have mostly read Hindi classic novels of Bengali writers like Sharatchandra Chaterji, Bankimchandra Chaterji and Premchand and Shivani.

    SWEETY

  12. @Sweety,
I can speak for myself that I may have been out of India but it is hard for any one to take India out of me. So I am still in India in that sense.

You know, I have read books by Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay, Munshi Premchand and Shivani. Sharat Chandra's "Parineeta" and Shivani's "Vishkanaya" are still my favorite books. I also love other hindi novels like "Raseedi Ticket" by Amrita Pritam and "Lihaff" by Ismat Chugtai. But my most favorite of all is "Sara Akash" by Rajendra Yadav. By any chance have you read Sara Akash, because if you have not then please RUN to the library as soon as you read this blog and get that book. You CAN NOT miss that book.

  14. @Sweety,

Dudette, Let em first KIll this notion that you are OUT of Place here, In fact you are IN-PLACE, and we are completely Out of Place !

Please pick and choose any of my posts, You will find some India in it if not all. and Let me assure you that For atleast 10 more generations, It will be hard to get India out of us, I wont be around but the little Neice and Nephews are always Flying to india in their little planes, You know why ? Bcoz 10,000 years is a lot of time compared to 200 years, These people have seen Nothin, and experienced nothing, our roots are so deep into music, Culture, Art, science, take anything, You just cant live without a Little bit of india always reminding you to come back. Take this for instance, I can get the best samosas here but can I ever ever Not miss the samosa from national college canteen ? you can get Naryal Pani, but does it taste like the naryal pani at Juhu ? and what about Rajma ? and achar and chutney ? The point is, its a Choice to be out of india, but its never a choice to keep india out of you ! which would you prefer ?

I would prefer a life where I dont miss any and everything ! ask any bloggers if they were able to get india out of them, and Just to add, the only reason we were all at SRGMP forum was just bcoz INDIA was calling !

Sob Sob Sob, One will never get the best of both worlds,

Kahin zameen tou kahin aasman nahin milta.

I hope now you know that you IN-PLACE and IN-formed, we are just Killing time and ourselves !

Yeah jeena bhi koi jeena hai Lalloo ?

Your poetry, quotes and general writing is extremely inviting, I wonder if there is a single person here who is not your fan.

and last but Not the least, apna star to bata dou please !

Like Mehfil rightly said, you are IN place, we are all OUT of it ! Aur kuch log Wallis aur Futuna mein rehte hain !! Think about them !
Regarding movies and books, I thought I watch a lot and read a lot.. until I met this dudette called Rekha in this blog ! Tab se ab tak mera koi post dekha hai books ya movies ke baare mein.. himmat nahi ho rahi ! Rekha toh iss joner mein kya pachaad pachaad ke maartee hain (thank you Himeshji) with her super suggestions and reviews about movies and books !
The best thing about this blog is we all get to share the knowledge. I have read a few of Munshi Premchand's short stories like "Shatranj ke khiladi", "eid-gaah", "Do bailon ki katha" etc..,and some Shivani, Sharatchandra C etc as part of my school syllabus only. Remember reading Munshiji's "Nirmala" too. But, long forgotten now. Please do share your knowledge here with us. It'll be exciting to relive those past days !

    @Rekha
Thanks for the hindi novels suggestions yaar. Wish we had easy access to these books here in the US :-(

    @Mehfil
Sigh !! Talk about naariyal paani ! I've been besharam enough to buy the $1.49c canned "coconut juice" Made in Thailand from the local grocery stores here... just to get the NP taste... but what do we get ? Suwweeeet water with pieces of coconut (I think) floating in it ...
The can sure looks good though !

    Your guess came true.
quote "I have a uncanny feeling that I am TOTALLY WRONG on this."
    You are!!!!!

I am none of those you have guessed.
    Aries is to be my acquaintence; Bull headed, workoholic, impressionable personality, cheeky;
    Cancer - my sweet aunty, royal and holding such powerful position but a golden heart, not dominating though, very affectionate and loving;
Capricorn - leadership, dominating, powerful, meticulous, simple at heart, giving, concerned, brutally honest to the core, animal lover, (fit to become SPCA, President), very talented, great singer;that's my good friend.

Keep guessing, the zodaic signs that are left will be one of them..LOL

Speaking of what Senty said about our damsel(i dont know whether i could use this word) Rekha(confering an award just like Dame in UK), I second Senty's thought - me too fearful of Rekha. At times, i am scared to write even, what caliber, she is par excellance in review of books, movies and such vast knowledge. I get dumb founded...often i think, may be i must just read and watch....but I love people, I like to interact, so much to learn, read, reflect and enjoy in each others company. May be dudette Rekha could do one more Ph D in other subject like reviewing movies and books:::::::)

Pisces are secretive at times selfish, very dynamic in approach and hard working... i am not though...like a rainbow..will have paint all the colors here.

  20. @Rekha, @Doc Kaul, @Mehfil, @Bama and @Senty,

Thanks to all of you for responding to my post. I am honoured.

I would also like to apologise to you all for I think, maine aap sab ki dukhti rag par haath rakh diya hai. Apne desh mein apnon ke beech mein rahte hue, yahan ke samosa-kachori, gol gappe aur chat khate hue, hum kabhi aap logon ka dard mahsoos nahin kar sake, par aaj aapke bayaan padhkar sachmuch ankhein nam ho gai.

    "Jaake paanv na phati biwai,
    wah kya jaane peer parai".

The way you all have consoled me has really touched my heart. Actually I am a very simple person and finds all of you way way ahead of me, in the field of music, art and reading. But I think, if I continue in this forum, I would surely gain something from you all. Aakhir, sangat kaa asar to hoga hi.

So I once again ask pardon from all of you. I Will continue to contribute in the poetry and shayari section, because I think that is an area, where I can at least boast off a little.

And I would very much like to share my review of Hindi novels with all of you. "Shivani" is my most favourite author and I will post a review of her best seller 'Krishnakali" in a few days.

And lastly, I am a LEO. I think, I am the only lioness on this forum.

I had this wonderful Boss...he was so hard working, very focussed, extremely intelligent, projects would be completed even before time, he was a terror, bossy, but he knew his subject so well...
Not only he used to work hard and make people around work too.

He had a wierd side...he had an extraordinarily beautiful wife, so possessive about her, got a job in the same organisation, kept her in the next Cubicle. He had good taste for tasty food, beauty and intelligence.

When I spoke to my friends last, they said he left that office and surprisingly he joined as CEO of Zee Telefilms and I dont know whether he is still sticking around.

    Guess what he was Pisces.

  32. Hi Bama,
Vowwww, finally, my third guess is right.
You know, I was about to guess that in my second attempt but when I read this in your post "seldom forgiving (after great soul searching they may)..., I told myself, naaa she can not be Scorpian. As I know of Scorpians, they are very generous, forgiving and never hold any grudge against anyone.

This was a great FUN. So welcome Ms. Scorpian, the only one on this forum (so far). You know, Scorpians are aspiring World leaders, any plans?

  33. @Rekha,

I had read "Saara Akaash" long back. I think, I will get it again from the library and refresh my memories.

Amongst Bengali writers, Bankimchandra Chaterji's "Anandmath" and Sharatchandra Chaterji's "Parineeta" are the best sellers. Have you read "Pather Panchali" by "Bibhutibhushan benerjee" ? I think it is the most exciting book by any Bengali writer, based on which, a film was made by the great movie maestro "Satyajit Ray".

And you must read "Krishnakali" by "Shivani". It is a very touching story of an extremely beautiful girl. In fact,in all of the Shivani's novels, the main character is a woman.

  34. Hey Senty,
Yaar, you give me too much mileage for book and movie selection. Actually, I am so impressed by your knowledge of music, especially, classical ragas etc. You, dockaul and other music lovers on this forum can review music in such details that are beyond my comprehension.

In my school days, I wanted to learcn music so I got enrolled in harmonium classes. After 4 classes, I had to take a test during which my music teacher said "arai bai aap sur sambhaliye (just like Shekharji on Sare ga ma pa), nahi toh ja kar test-tube hilayai".

Needless to say, mai sur nahi sambhaal saki, isiliye aaj tak test-tube hila rahi hoo.

About hindi books, it is difficult to get hold of them in US. When I visit India, my shopping list contains 'more books' and less 'salwar-kammeeze' and that is how I replenish my stock.

    Take care,

Politics and religion are like dope...would like to stay away...but at the same token, i am interested in current affairs.

I would like to know how to recognise the Ragaas of songs...my friend plays Veena(stringed instrument) and sings classical songs...we always attended so many concerts...nothing rubbed against me, except enjoying the melodies.

How can you fake understanding the Ragaas, let me know the secret...I am really dying to learn...in our family, they all like Hindusthani. I am so open i can enjoy Bhajan, Filmi,Karnatak classical or Hindusthani classical. They are very choosy. I am like dumb as far as ragaas are concerned...like to show off sometimes..by identifying different ragaas.

Senty, i was just thinking outside the box...how about introducing a small "Quiz" kind prog here...I have some idea, will write in detail in my next note.

Arre nahi yaar, I dont think I can easily fake understanding any ragas... but I know very little, thats what I was trying to get at. I too just enjoy the music I listen to and dont spend too much time analyzing the technical aspects of it.
But lack of knowldege has never stopped me from appreciating classical music. I'd love to know more and I know that at all times in my life I'll be exploring some form of music or the other.

I think the kid who sang Allah ke bande (I don't recall the name), appeared to be very bindaas and he performed without any haste. And he bajao such good tabla on the table, that both Suresh ji and Sonu "bhaiya" were impressed.

  41. Hey Sweety,
Yes, I have read books by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, Sharat Chandra Chatterjee and Pather Panchali. In fact, I bought Pather Panchali movie dvd during my last visit to India.

My favorite Bengali writer is Sharat Chandra Chatterjee who was also known as the”Moon” (his name means Autumn Moon) of Bangla literature. Sharat Chandra’s work was often compared with Rabindranath Tagore’s work, another great Bangla writer of the same time. Whereas Tagore, the “Sun” of Bengla literature, was hesitant to portray woman as a strong person who can break norms set by the society, Sharat Chandra presented woman as self-confident and independent-minded in his books, e.g. Lolita in ‘Parineeta’ and Indu in ‘Darp-Churn’.

On comparison of two books “Chokher Bali” by Tagore (1906) and “Parineeta” by Sharat Chandra (1914), one realizes that these two writers perceived a woman’s place in the society of that Era, very differently. “Binodini” (Chokher Bali) of Tagore, opts out of a tough path to survive on her-own and seduces a rich married man to gain few materialistic pleasures. In contrast, “Lolita” (Parineeta) of Sharat Chandra is strong-willed woman who lives by her convictions and faces difficulties with dignity.

It is also known that people loved Sharat Chandra’s books, and considered the “Autumn Moon” brighter than the “Sun”.

It is so much fun revisiting these "great" novels with you.
    Thanks

  46. Hi Rekha !

I have not seen the movie "Pather Panchali", but the experience that I had while reading the book is terrific. I rate this novel as one of the best amongst the novels authored by Bengali writers.

Of course, Sharat chandra Chatterjee is unmatchable. His contribution to the literature has rendered him a position, that is very difficult to attain. "Parineeta"
is my favourite too. Do you know, three films have been produced on this novel. The first one is an oldie, with Ashok Kumar and Meena Kumari in the lead roal. The second one had Jitendra and Sulakshana Pandit as the main actors and the third one you already know, starring Saif and Vidhya.

When you come to India, do not forget to collect the novel "Krishnakali" by "Shivani". Shivani's each and every novel is based on the life style of the people of Kumaun, which is a beautiful region of Uttarakhand, covering Nainital, Almorah, Ranikhet, Bhuvali and Kausani. Three years back, I travelled along the entire Kumaun region, and during my tour, I felt as if one of the Shivani's novels has become alive in front of my eyes. Kumaun is certainly more beautiful than any other hilly area of the country.

I am happy that I have someone to discuss the Hindi novels. Thanks for showing interest.

  47. Hi Sweety,
The movie "Pather Panchali" is as good as the book. You will enjoy it.

I did see the old version of Parineeta starring Ashok Kumar and Meena Kumari but I must say that I loved the newest version. Vidhya looks as the perfect "apsara" of Hindu Mythology. It is a shame that she is not able to attain the same perfection in her recent movies.

You know I was mesmerized by the movie "Himalaya", (I posted its review on 'Scene Stealers') because it reminded me of my "Dharamsala" trip. That is the only hill station I have visited besides Jammu and Kashmir. The scenary was awesome.
After hearing so much from you,
I will definately try to visit these places next time I am in India.

In USA, there is a National Park named "Yellow Stone National Park" which is like the 8th Wonder of the World. One has to see it to believe that Nature can be so mysterious. There are hundread of geysers, the most popular being 'the Old Faithful' that has been erupting every ~ 20 minutes since many years. A truly fascinating place of Nature's wonders.

I think I have read "Krishnakali" which is a story of this young exraordinarily beautiful girl who is exploited by an old man from her family. I read it many years ago so the stoty has faded in my neuronal circuits. But I will buy it on my next visit, time to revise it.

Same here, I am so excited that we can discuss hindi novels otherwise, yaha toh sara din english bol kar muh thak jata hai.
    More later,

I too liked Parineeta better than CB. The movies I mean. Havent read the books at all. You ladies are doing a fantabulous job of bringing alive some great classics via these discussions ! Do feel free to write up character sketches or interesting memorable scenes etc. I remember watching the Jetendra-S.Pandit version on DD a loooong time back jab cable-vable nahin tha life mein.
A similar kind of movie I remember way back from DD days is Basu Chatterjee's "Swami" starring Shabana Azmi, Girish Karnad and Vikram. A classic I would say. It had a very "Bengali" feel.

    @Bama...
    Seriously..!! Accounting in Afghanistan ??

  52. @Senty,
"Swami" movie was one of the classic of its time. Shabana did a great job playing a "nakhrewali" woman, 'ke maja aata uski aadaye dekh kar'. The story line is very similar to W. Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew"..... a nakhrewali woman tamed by her husband...as simple as that. But I do agree with you that it is a sweet movie with 'Bengali-rasgoola' touch.

Infact, I was hesitant to write in 'Book Reviews' section, since I have not read the book...however, i attended a spiritual retreat for 45 days, at a place called 'Sidh Bari' which is in Himachal Pradesh...we were listening to the lectures given by masters with Himalayas as back drop...the whole experience was so unforgettable....at the end of the camp, we did not wanted to return home.

We had seen similar scenery when we went to Nepal...we took a flight while going....on our way back, we came by road.....Wah,Wah I felt we could have missed this amazing scenes...on one side you will see Saraswathi river flowing majestically and on the other side...mother nature, hair-pin curves, valleys, gigantic stones, its worth travelling by road in these mountanous regions.

  62. @Rekha,

It feels so good to discuss some Hindi novels with you. I agree that the latest Parineeta has been picturised in a much better way than the previous ones, but the original story has been changed a lot in this new version. Anyway, you cannot expect more in today's world. I think, Vidhya Balan is superb. And Saif has also done a great job in the movie, playing a serious character.

I had read about the "Yellow stone National Park" during my school days. Your description of this wonderful place is enough temptation for me to visit this place.

Talking of hill stations, I would suggest that if you truly want to enjoy the beauty of those high peaks of the country, do not visit the hill stations like Mussoorie, Nainital or Shimla, because they are too over crowded now. The real beauty lies in the hilly areas of Uttrakhand, and you can travel for days together, wandering in the beautiful valleys of Kumaoon and Gharwal.

These places are still untouched by the crowd and you can sense ultimate peace there. On one side of the road are the sky touching mountains, and on the other side are the deep valleys. It looks like that these two mysteries of nature are so opposite to each other, yet they are always found together like friends.

I think you are mistaking Krishnkali for another of Shivani's novel, which has the kind of story you described. Actually, "Krishnakali" is a story of a beautiful girl, who is an illegal child of a Muslim father and Pahadi mother, and both of her parents are lepors. You will remember again, when you read it.

I will write about some more of Shivani's novels in next post.

The most popular hill-stations are indeed most least-appealing to me. Even Switzerland is so overhyped in my opinion. Waise bhi Yash Chopra ne tho Swiss ka overdose de diya... and didnt leave anything for us to explore in real. There is nothing else there...

First of all let me say that you all are NUTS, and most of the times, something literally COMPELS me to write my 2 cents worth ( where the Heck is 0.02Worth ?).

Way back when, during the undivided India, when the 0 cents worth Goras invaded India, there was this Hunter named Jim Corbett, as a kid I read his stories and would venture into "tiger" Hideouts in the crowded alleys of bombay, you never knew where a man eater was hiding, it could be behind a tree or behind a building, besides they were man eaters, so they had to be in downtown bombay, Right ? specially around linking road !! why not, it was easy for tigers to swim across Mahim Creek and then the Saviour, the Bravest of the Braves was there, searching for them with his Cork gun, one shot at the head of a tiger would render it motionless, and then I would grab a tiger and drag it to the zoo and then the Preseident of Inda would award Padma vibhushan to me for bravery , Cork guns are not just toys, they can be fatal !, my cat hated me with that gun, she knew that she had to play the man eater part when she saw me carrying the gun with a half broken shaft, otherwise she was way too loving towards me and slept with me in the same bed for years ! No Man eater dared to venture into the crowded Bombay city on my watch ! but I got hooked onto the stories of Jim Corbett, one such story was "Kumaon ka Adamkhor" ( Hence all the blabbering ! ) I have never been to Kumaon, and chances are that in this life time, I will not be visiting Kumaon, but through Jim Corbetts eyes, I can describe each and every GHAATI of Kumaon ! anybody interested ?

Ok, I know, I know, I'm retarded, but just in case you have some spare time, read this article:

  70. @Mehfil Ji,

"The Man eaters of Kumaoon" is undoubtedly a legend, after "Ramayan" and "Mahabharat". Thanks for the article on this great book.

I will surely see Kumaoon in my dreams tonight. The mountains really drive me crazy.

Tried all the special effect stuff like freeze the water drop from the tap, spoon in a cup, but spoon ke shadow ka photo nikalo... Shoot the sun from the top of my cat so that the cat looks like a dark cat-bhoot against a spiky blast of sunshine.. and what not... (jeez !!)
But the best photos have been the ones that were taken on trips, that holds not just a pretty picture, but all the memories as well.

    @sweety
Your shuddh hindi is killing me !!
Phrases like मायावी संसार , सुखद स्मृतियाँ and अमूल्य निधियां .... wah wah.... again takes me back to my kagaz ki kashti days in school where I last read such strong hindi :-)
    Awesome.. I love it !!

Thanks for your good words, but I would say that I have a long way to go in the direction of doing something creative in this field. The ocean of knowledge is so vast that I have not been able to grab even half a drop as yet.

Your blog site has certainly provided me with me with a place, where I can share my expressions with all the bloggers. It is rightly said that "Tareef karne wali Nazron ke bina nazaron ki kya ahmiyat. Isi tarah, aap sab padhne walon ke bina, mera likhna, ret par likhne ke saman hai, jise wakt ki lehren aake kabhi bhi mita deti hain."

Thanks a lot for the site.

Anyway, I wish all my blogger friends a Very HAPPY DIWALI, in advance, with a poem, written by Hon.Shri Atal Bihari Bajpai ji, and just suited for this occasion :

    ===================================
    आओ फिर से दिया जलायें

    भरी दुपहरी में अँधियारा, सूरज परछाईं से हारा,
    अंतरतम का नेह निचोडें, बुझी हुई बाती सुलगायें,
    आओ फिर से दिया जलायें.

    हम पड़ाव को समझे मंजिल, लक्ष्य हुआ आँखों से ओझल,
    वर्तमान के मोहजाल में, आने वाला कल न भुलाएँ,
    आओ फिर से दिया जलायें.

    आहूति बाकी, यज्ञ अधूरा, अपनों के विघ्नों ने घेरा,
    अन्तिम जय का वज्र बनाने, नव दधीचि हड्डियाँ गलाएं,
    आओ फिर से दिया जलायें.

    ===================================

May the festival of Diwali light your lives with knowledge, peace and prosperity.

Gal, You are killing me ! I can read, write and speak hindi and have been speaking the language for long, but your SHUDH Sanskrit is beyond my reading ability, though I can understand the common words, besides I'm not in india anymore, jahan iss doori ke doosray bohut se nuqsan hain ( for instance I have to compete with Senty for every centimeter ! ), and missing the Diwali with the Bhai logs of Mumbai, and each and everything that you are blessed with ( Hey I heard the price of Tomatoes has gone up ? ), is it possible for you to write simple hindi ? or you can also rewrite the whole thing in Roman, array kuch time hi lagay ga na ? so agar apnay desi becharon ke liye likh diya tou kiya ho jayega ? aakhir humara bhi koi adhikar hai ke nahin ?

    @Rekha

Lagta hai finallay you managed to get the wonder drug for diabetes ? otherwise there is no reason for you to be away from the blog for so long, Kiya koi naye ekitab mil gayee jo hum logon ko bhool gayeen ? aajao yaar, kuch nahin tou aik gali hi de jao. its been long .

Senty Ji, kiya baat hai ? aaj kal ghar main dil nahin lagta ? log aate hain, kuch kehte hain unki koi sunta hi nahin ? aap kidhar gahayab ho ? kuch tou bolo ? tum jahan bhi ho ghar wapis aajao, tumhai kuch nahin kaha jayega !

Hey, I was at a concert where Pt. Brij Narayan was playing the Sarod, Itw as so nice to meet him after nearly 15 years. The next day he called and we spoke for more than an hour, but the funny part was that after the performance, a couple of bewildered Goras came to him and asked him how did he do that ? I asked them what are they referring to ? and they said the music, one of them was asking him if he can explain what combination of notes did he play ? poor Brij had a tough time explaining to them that you have a limit of beats and taals and within that you can use variations to go with the octaves.HCM is too much to understand for them, atleast they leg behind us in Shudh sarang !

  83. @Mehfil ji,

A very Happy Diwali to you and everyone in your family there. I can understand, how is it like, to celebrate the most awaited festival of the year, in a country, where people seldom know about it.

Of course, you might be having a group of your Indian friends there, and can enjoy this festival of light with them, but I know you will still miss the chakli, karanji and anaarse of aamchi Mumbai (I do not know if you have ever tasted these things), dhamaka of bombs and the festivities going on everywhere. Are you allowed to take leave from your work for Diwali celebration ? Here in India, nobody seems to feel like work during the week long celebrations.

And I am really sorry for using such difficult Hindi. I know, it is not possible for you to keep pace with such kind of "shudh" language, in a foreign country, where you seldom get a chance to interact in Hindi. Please let me know, which portion of my blog you find difficult to understand, and I will rewrite it in Simple HINDI or Roman. Of course, you have every right to ask me to do this, being a fellow blogger.

  85. Hi Sweety,
Sorry, I did not get a chance to reply to your earlier post (31/10/07).
I will definately plan to visit hilly areas of Uttarkhand. I have only seen pictures and it looks like heaven on earth.

I am glad to know that I could tempt you to visit "Yellow stone National Park". If you ever decide to cross "Atlantic Ocean " and come to this side of the Universe, you are more than welcomed to stay with me.

You are right that I may be mixing up "Krisnkali" with another of Shivani's novels since I read these books long........time ago. As I said earlier, the details of these books are fading in my neuronal circuits. I would like to read them again as I ardently admire her work. I am going to buy these books when I visit Delhi next time.

Wishing you happy Diwali and lots of fun during these holidays.

Oh, ya, please do us a favor, and send some 'apne desh ke hava' filled with Diwali flavor such as, voh kale gulab jamun ke sugand, namkeen mathee, namakpare, safed rasgoola and gajar ka halva.
    Thanks

  86. @Senty,
    You are most welcome.

Actually, "Sara Akash" was one of those movies that was not raved by the media. I liked the movie very much (more than the book) because the storyline is so... simple, yet it touches you somewhere deep down in your heart.

In the novel, the author, Rajendra Yadav has mentioned that he knew this couple personally and in realty they did not speak to each other for first NINE YEARS of their marriage. Totally unbelievable.........

However, in the movie, Basu Chatterjee cut down the time to 6 months because he himself was not convinced that such things can exist.

This movie is "Baran" of Indian Cinema so try to watch if you are able to find it here in USA. I got the book from Delhi, of course.

Wishing you a happy Diwali and fun holidays.

Hello friend and a very very happy DIWALI to you. Three cheers for this blog Site, for its creator Senty and for our friendship.

Your long absence on thid site gave me an idea that perhpas you got so impressed with the details of Uttarakhand that you decided to visit it right now. But I know, you at least require
a month to explore the scenic beauty of this "Dev Bhoomi", the Land of GODS. It is truly like a heaven on earth and once you visit it, you are not going to forget it for rest of your life.

I do not know when would I get a chance to visit the other side of Universe, where all my fellow bloggers live, but this is for sure that once in my life, I am going to see all these great places with my own eyes. Thanks for your invitation. I heartily accept it.

I know, it is very difficult to remember stories of novels read once, until and unless you refresh it a number of times. Like I have literally rattofied the story of "Krishnakali", because I find this book very close to my heart. Shivani's another masterpiece "Chaudah Phere" is also my favourite and I know its story by heart. The reason is that I keep reading these books again and again.

Today is DIWALI, the festival of joy and I can feel this happiness everywhere. Today, we made a "Rangoli" outside our house, with so many colours and decorated it with Diyas. And imagine what have we prepared at this occasion. Chakli, Matthee, Gunjhiya (Karanji), namakpare, shakarpare, besan ki barfi, Khopra paak and besan ke laddu. I think your mouth has already started watering. Gajar ka halwa abhi nahin banaya, kyonki abhi achchhi gajar nahin aa rahi hain. December mein banega. Abhi to mithyian hi bahut ban gai hain. But I do not chalao patakhas, because I think it is a sheer wastage of money. Instead, I would like to help some poor people and get their blessings.

    Thanks for responding.

  90. For me, If Diwali falls on a weekend, then there is some extended celebration with friends, we get together for a feast.. sab apne apne ghar se khaana-vaana, sweets-weets leke aate hai .. we compliment each other on their pakwaan, recipe poochte hain.. "dress kahan se liya ?? imported ??" etc, etc..
But this time, since it was middle of the week, I did what I love doing most... @ work :-(

US mein Diwali celebrarions apne apne tareeke se hota hai. Most often its wishing friends and fmly on the phone, sending e-messages, e-cards. Or shop for gifts online ... Sometimes, sender khud doesnt know ki dibbe mein kya hai ... Naseeb apna apna.. jisko jo mile kabool karlo bhai ;-) But most people I know put in a lot of effort in picking Diwali gifts for near and dear ones.

The Diwali melas organized by local communities are pretty good I hear. I've never been to one myself...:-) Main itna kasht nahin uthathi.
But I do believe these melas are a great opportunity to enjoy Diwali to the fullest extent possible outside India. The food ... the music... I am sure "dard-e-disco" would have rocked the occasion this time around ! And ofcourse a great place for rishton ki buniyaad .. ;-)

Many folks I know attend local musical concerts, classical or light, arranged specially for this occasion. More religious folks drive up to the temple for special poojas.

The joyous festivities in India at this time is something I cannot hope to find anywhere else outside. But the spirit of Diwali and the nostalgic memories of my Diwali days in India, is always present in my heart, more so on this occasion year after year.
And my most sincere Diwali wishes go out to all dost log in this blog ... Have a blast !

Tumari chitti par kar eisa lag raha hai ke supersonic jet se ek din ke liye hindustan chali ja.nhoo. kash... eisa ho sakta....

Kher kohi baat nahin, jara meri taraf se be besan ke barfi aur matthee taste karna nahin boolna.

I am glad to learn that overseas also, Diwali is celebrated with this zeal and zest. This is one such festival that is celerated by every Indian, irrespective of his/her caste or religion, because DIWALI is mainly a festival of joy. Though in each religion, the celebration of Diwali has been related to some mythological stories, but the essence of this festival lies in enjoying life to its fullest. So I think, there is not much difference in the way people celebrate Diwali in India and overseas.

I do agree the festivities are indeed missing here in the US, but the spirit of Diwali is always present on the occasion. Moreover, Thanksgiving's just round the corner, so in a few days there will be lots of lights and festivities and huge sales in the malls. These will continue until Christmas and New Year.. Its a very high-spirits time of the year in the US.
And I must say a big KUDOS to you for listing all the mouthwatering goodies you made for Diwali. Yaar, I feel embarrassed ... hum ne to kuch khaas nahin banaya, sirf gulab jamun ... maine banaya Gits se :-)
Diwali weekend mein mere dost log split into two.. half went to see OSO, the other Saawariya... I was smart.. went to neither. I hear both are pretty bakwas.. I read Sajeet's super review of Saawariya in PT&SS .. and oh my, am I glad I stayed home !

  96. @Senty,

I must admit one thing that all you "pravasi" Indians celebrate the festivals with greater enthusiasm than we people. Nowadays, it appears as though we are just going through a set of formalities to be observed at the time of the festival. Perhaps, it is because everything is so readily available to us within the country, that we do not even realise the importance of these petty things. But you people miss all these things in pardes and hence knows their importance. So I think the spirit of Diwali and other festivals is stronger in the Pardesi Bhartiya people.

And please do not feel sorry for not being able to make the special pakwaans for Diwali. Next year, I am going to send you everything from here.

Nowadays, all the TV channels are flooded with reality shows. With the SRGMP on ZEE TV, we had VOI on Star and Indian Idol on Sony TV. Then came the "Nach Balliye" on the Star followed by "Jhalak DIkhla Ja" on Sony and
"Jhoom India" on Sahara One. I doubt, some day, we are not even going to remebers the day and time of these shows. Kahin in shows ki adhikta hamara hazma kharab na karde.

Firstly, I would like to wish all of you a very happy belated Diwali.

I can see that while some enjoyed it well, some people worked through it :)

As for me, I grew fatter!!

...and that, despite considerable amount of exercise

It all started with me deciding to host a open house for Diwali.

There was a 'marathon' of thoughts, all of them 'jogging' through my brain

I 'ran' through the list of friends, relatives and business acquintainces 'Picked-up' 70 names.

With an RSVP of 60 names, I 'jumped' to a conclusive decision to cater and not cook.

I did plenty of 'pranayaam', at all the 17 caterers and mithai shops

I ensured all the calories in the food were burned (Raw food is not my bit)

Cleaning and decoraing the house was a considerable effort, I had to pay the contractor for it.

I abstained from parties. I recieved 27 invites and Just attended 10 in the last 7 days.

After all the exercise and restrain I think and deserve to treat myself, what do you think?

I should have let my mind" Jog" and instead of going berserk, should have sought help from caterers, but what can you do with these freakin "FRAMAISH " for everything from the type of food to the type of decor to the type of booze to mithayee, you name it. Honestly though, I live for those farmaish, one such mind boggling farmaish was for PAN, thank God Chitown has everything desi, it was Nice to see PANs flying off the hook !

But I liked your way of "TAKING CONTROL ", the point is noted for NEXt year !

It is typical of Europe and some cities in the US where you get Indian spices, paan and even mithai in a china town or a chinese shop. The chinese do not use any of our regular spices except ginger, garlic and chillies. I was pleasently surprised in to find 'gawar' or cluster beans in a chinese shop in Paris. I guess, at the end of the day, it's just a matter of convenience.

On one hand you said you did nothing but lit the lamps and on the other, you said you fulfilled the farmaish!! now fulfilling farmaaish is really not nothing!!

Burning fingers is a part of Diwali, only it is more often while playing with fireworks then lighting lamps.

Now, it does seem like you had a nice Diwali.
    Thanks for sharing your experience.

Good to see you here ! Welcome to the blog !

Here is a quick tip -

I am sure you have lots of shayari to share with us.. especially from Pak. Please do post them in "Poetry 'n Shayari" page. We all are looking forward to your posts yaar. I (bowing down) am forever grateful to you for the "Raqs-e-bismil" album you introduced to me :-)

If you have anything random to talk about just like a coffee house conversation, check out the "Cafe Nukkad". Just a place to share your thoughts. You can see for yourself the various topics that come up in Nukkad.

Rekha and Sajeet have posted some great reviews of books and movies in "Page turners 'n scene stealers". We love to hear from you as well, if you want to post your comments here, please feel free. And dont miss the posts about the distinguished poets (like Zehra Nigah) from Pakistan that Mehfil has written about.

I am still working on transliterating the hindi-only shayari posts to english script so ppl who dont know hindi script can enjoy them as well.

Basically, ppl here are posting in any of the blogs that their topic fits into. So there is no one particular blog that has the latest post. It varies depending on who is posting under which topic.

I do understand your "feeling lost" feeling in this blog :-) I think there needs to be a main page with links to various pages..and the "latest comments" list should show up in the main page (like $hashi's blog). We do have the "Recent comments" listed on the individual blog pages, but we need to have one for the main page as well. I will try to fix that asap (have to learn more about blog-programming). And also will consolidate some pages that seem to be carrying redundant topics of discussions. Like "Poetry 'n shayari" and "Aap hum aur..." can be combined to one. Ok, will take it up as a project over the long Thanksgiving weekend.

Now I can guess why you got busy because they must be giving you a lot of homework in 'school of spiritualism'.

Sometime ago I was totally submerged in reading 'Geeta and Upanishads' but then I lost my way somewhere. In fact, I felt that the more I was reading on this subject, the more I was becoming a misfit among people around me.
What I mean is that one becomes so detached from wordly affairs that there is hardly any thing left to talk about.

  122. Sorry friends. I have not been able to stay in touch in this blog as much as I wanted to. I have been reading every post that came in though. I get email notifications and I never miss reading the posts at that time.
Thanks for the great contributions. And its nice to see Gaffar bhai here in the poetry blog !

So, what is going on here with me? The holidays are coming up and guess what, we are having seminars at my work place that goes "How to manage holiday stress". It is for folks who stress out with their holiday plans a.k.a out-of-town trips, air tickets, cross country driving plans, gifts to buy, tips on how-to-beat-the-shopping-rush-but-still-get-to-the-best-sale, etc.. etc.. We had two sessions of this seminar. One for the early birds at 8.00 am and one for the lunch-skippers at noon. I am neither.. So I missed both sessions :-) Waise bhi mujhe toh kaam se stress hota hai, holidays se thodi hota hai ! Anyways, I cant wait for the long break. Dont know what I plan to do, but whatever it is will be more fun than office work.

Other times .. I haunt esnips.com .. mera dushman ! There is sooo much music out there on esnips.. it is unhealthy ! I must confess I spend heck a lot of time there... checking out the multi-g-zillion songs. So much so that esnips ko hawa lagi and they took out the download option :-(
citing some weird new audio files policy. But the esnips-crazy janta were being watched over by the hacking angels and now we are back in business :-) Policies toh todne ke liye banta hai.

Which means I need a new harddisk for backing up my ever-expanding audio collection (actually, include videos as well... ), which means I have to join the shopping rush to get a good deal, which means I will be stressed, and ya.. which means I should have sat thru the seminar... Jeez !

BTW zara jaldi karna, coz we found ki esnips bewafa nikla.. sath chhod raha hai. Many of the songs are blocked / removed from esnips due to copyright reasons, and are now "file not found" ed.

If you have any probs downloading let me know, I will email the .mp3 to you.

You can find this CD in emusic.com where I got it from. Its called "Raag se Ghazal tak" if I remember correctly.

  126. Hola Senty,

Thanks Dudette, I GOT IT !!

I was looking at all the wrong places since I know that there is a "CHANGE" in the policy enips used to operate , only a few songs are downloadable. way back when we used to get reception from pak tv with everything aluminum attached to the antenna , that meant all the thaalis, bartans and dongas were missng from the kitchen, Back then, doordarshan was the only entertainment and that used to be so boring with "SOOCHANAS", half assed dramas and geetanjli ayer reading the News. Ramayan and vikram aur beatal used to be the weekend features only. the Marathi karyakaram used to take up most of the PRIMETIME TV. While Amanat Ali and Fateh Ali were performing across the borders.

Now, I have a time table for all the music programs, which I follow religiously including K for Kishore. Times do change !

Thank you very much for your help. I did download a few of my Fav.

    Regards

  127. Mehfil,

Oh absolutely.. those days were crazy days.. jus replace your TV with a transistor radio and thats my story too.. And replace your balti bartan with a lamba sa metal wire wound on to the already lamba antena. The transistor perched on the outside of my room's window with the antena wire hanging out of the house for better shortwave reception :-) And my folks yelling at me "somebodys gonna steal that darn radio one day.. !!"
Ya, that was my style of catching Radio "Cylone" Srilanka from further down South. The programs were different from VividBharti. And I absolutely enjoyed both. "Cibaca geet mala" was my fav. No one can beat Ameen Sayani even today !
And other progs like "Ek aur anek" where they used to feature Mehdi Hassan, Jagjit Singh etc.
The shortwave stations' reception was horrible. So scratchy .. and I used to find it so hard to catch the lyrics of those lovely songs .. At times I had to hold the antena to reduce the hissing and scratching, until a fav song finished :-)

But after all those years of shortwave misery , jab bahaar aayi toh kya khoob aayi... ekdum digital mein :-) Internet ki jai ho ! Broadband ki aur bhi jai ho !

Hmm.. Doordarshan of yore .. what I remember most, fondly though, is the blue and white "rukawat ke liye khed hai" eating up 15 mins of the 30 min of our once-a-week Chitrahaar.

BTW, about Ustaad AAK, I'm sure you must have already checked out these links (and others) of UAAK on youtube..

And also check out my "Ghazals" esnips folder... got some rare ones there...(I hope) !

  128. I checked out "K for Kishore" on Sony. This program is good for all Kishore Kumar fans. I am still figuring out the format of the show but beware ... all voices are K K clones ! So if you are watching this show seriously, you have to identify the singers by their faces or names.. not by their voices :-)
The loser takes home a LG Dynamite somethng something phone. The winner ofcourse moves up for another day 'n another episode until he bows out with an LG. I'm not sure what is promised to the last man standing.

More than singing talent, the challenge for the participants in this show is how far they can take a KK song in terms of adding the right amount of "feel" and masti to the song. Some singers (like the one guy who sang "main shayar badnaam") add extra rona dhona expression to their voice and when blended with the lyrics, the song goes over the top.
The episode I watched was called "dil se".. meaning "feel" wala songs, there was another "Ek main aur ek tu" for duets etc. I expect other rounds to be like "joshila" or "yodlee yodlee yoo" round or something like that.
No .. no drama vaama here. Jus good ol KK songs. I like this show.

Babul Supriyo and WhosTheGirl are the show hosts. The judges are Amit Kumar (Duh !!), Bappida (DUH !!) and Sudesh Bhosle.

It looks like all participants are already established seasoned singers. Aur haan .. Apurva from SRGMP C 07 is a strong contender for the title in "K for K".

Not sure if anyone is following SRGMP lil Champs religiously... I returned to watching it from last week.
In the "Arabic music" round this week, Vasundhara was awesome... amazing "khatooba" performance. Another EMOF performance was Anamika's "maiyaa maiyya". Made minced meat out of Mauli's M M. I thought Anamika sang a more difficult version. Actually, the original song is not my fav and is not in my collection of other Arabic music based music. But I liked Anamika's (and Mauli's)versions better than the original.

  129. @Senty,
I have seen few last episodes of lil champs and I also felt that Anamika's version of "maiyaa maiyya" was more difficult and even better that Mauli's.

Since you have such good knowledge about music I would like to know your opnion about Amir and Tanmay's singing talent. I think Amir's voice has that sufi touch and Tanmay understands sur better than other kids.

    Your opinion.........

  131. @Senty,

Yes I have been following Lil Champs religiously, and so is Rekha, we did exchange a few comments about Vasundhara a while back.

But like Rekha said, I also think that Tanmay and Amir are super supe super great kids, Tanmay has such a God Gifted GAYAN for sur and taal that I am totally convinced that its not something that you can Learn. I have watched his performances on Youtube over and Over and try it if you can, this kid has missed a sur here and there or he may not have KALAKARI in the throat, but show me once when he missed the tall, infact in every episode you will notice him directing the orchestra to relate a sur to the beat. Admittedly tanmay has the most horrible voice of all the kids, but come on he is 11 years old ! and by the time his voice gets devoid of all the cracking and instability which we all go through as a youth, he will be the most blessed dude in the world if he continues to sing, with the natural gift of tall, he can rock any song at all, also at this tender age he has a very little breath left for "Kharaj" but for the "Rakhab" part he beats everybody hollow. I'm totally amazed at his mastery of the tall, and amazingly his mother is totally KANSURI, in some previous episode they made all the mothers sing a few lines. Then you ask Where did this kid get this superior level of sur and taal understanding ? I love tanmay !
here is a sample video, check out his sense of taal.

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=j26_fcoipvk

Amir is my fav. though, this kid is impatient and will probably disappear in oblivion , but he has an awesome KALAKARI, and can gurgle the sure better than everybody including the previous srgmp WoRLDcup singers sans Mussarat. I'm so so so impressed by his kalakari, I only wish somebody makes him slowdown and follow the beat like Tanmay.

It makes me so happy to such little kids coming forward and displaying their talent, most of the kids in the final eight had not had any training, but watch the program on friday and saturday and see if your heart tells you what it tells me, that as long as we have good listeners, there is no dearth of great singers in our land, in fact even the toddlers are so gifted, and why Not ? we have 10,000 years of history behind us, no wonder we do not compete with nations with only 200 years of history !!!

I hope some of these kids make it big, they deserve to be, they are all from small towns/cities. I also think that the format of the show did not allow other school going kids to participate.
Oh well, we know we are the GREATEST NATION EVER !!
here is a video of Amir singing SAWARE.

  133. @Mehfil,
About Tanmay, I also feel that he should persue his music carrier as a conductor rather than as a singer. You are so right, it is amazing the way he directs orchestra with his eye movements. And did you notice his fingers counting the surs when he sings. I mean who knows he may be the future 'Zubin Mehta' of hindustani music.

I also feel that Amir rushes through the song as if he has to run outside to play cricket with his friends. He has truly soulful voice but he has no patience to express it. I think Suresh Wadekar ji understands his problem and try to tell him too but he is to young to realize that.

Sorry your plans of visiting India did not materlize but there is always a next time. So keep the bags ready.

Thanks for remembering me. I had horrible time during Dec. 2007. We had been to Banglore, planning to spend winter till March. Unfortunately, landed on Dec. 6th and had to rush to emergency, because I had breathlessness problem. After 2 weeks in the hospital, we flew back. Right from Airport again to emerge and stayed two weeks in the hospital and now recovering.

However, I kept track of reading and I saw Taare Zmeen Par as some of you had suggested. I too liked the movie.

Rekha, Senty, Mehfil and all blog friends love you all and wishing you best for 2008.

looks like you have been through A LOT ! Lets welcome bama to the blog with a standing Ovation. We all missed you.

I hope and wish you will be perfectly healthy soon

    @ Rekha

Rekha since both of us are aquarians, we think Alike! No magic here, but I do want our Pisces and Scorpion friends to put in their views. I do agree that Tanmay is really a star material and who knows he maybe the zubin Mehta of the new millennium .

OMG ! Oh no ! I dont think I have even an iota of proper musical knowledge. Absolute angootha chchap ...! The only thing I can be just a wee bit proud of is my passion for music. All kinds of music. But I really wish I could learn it the proper way...start from the basics and learn the math of it.

Tanmay is so awesome. Adorable kid. Isnt he the one who played tabla on SureshWJi's table way back in the beginning days of lil Champs ? The past two weeks I've watched this show, both weeks Tanmay has been the "must watch" for me .. along with Rohanpreet. These two have a lot of confidence and they show it on stage. I missed listening to Amir and Smita closely, both weeks. But will go for headphones et al this Friday for a complete involved listening. I think Amir has an awesome voice but lacks confidence and hence hurries through the song(s). He looks nervous on stage.

Vaishali a.k.a SureshWJi's "Chimini" sings good. But I really wish she would pipe down on the extra "fun" she brings on to the stage. It can backfire big time if she overdoes it. I remember adding a comment in $hashi's blog last week about this.

To be very honest, only after reading the conversation between Rekha and Mehfil about Vasundhara, I started watching this show again. So thanks guys..
The few of times I've heard Vasundhara sing, her voice reminded me of Sushma Shreshta (of "bhulega dil dis din tumhe..woh din zindagi ka..." fame). I would definitely watch out for Vasundhara in this show.

    @Bama
Welcome back ! Ya quite an ordeal you've gone through !
Its nice to see you back here again.. !

    @Mehfil
"Oh in your last to last post you mentioned Anamika's version of MM in comparison to mauli , Mauli who ?"
Hee hee .. good question :-) But I do appreciate Mauli's MM for one thing .. it made me sit up and ask "what the heck waz that ??" :-)
But seriously, I think her entry in C07 with that song was pretty promising. She just could not sustain the stardom which she found way too early in the series. And some of her please-dont-remind-me performances that followed were just that... Please dont remind me !

Lil Champs has awesome talents and on top of that the judges are so patient, and focussed and sincere about extracting the best from each kid. There is no unnecessary tamasha of any sort to kheenchofy the TRP upwards.
Aditya is doing better in Lil C than he did in C07 where he was overshadowed by the singers and the trikones and the Gurus and their graphs. In Lil C he is much more lively, and seems to be having a lot more fun on stage. I guess he feels grownup :-)

Sorry to hear about your ordeal on trip to Banglore. I hope you have recovered completely by now.

Relax and watch movies. There is another "feel-good" movie, 'Jab We Met' starring Shahid and Kareena Kapoor. It is really fun and the music is so-so good. If you have not seen it then try to watch, it is enjoyable.

I wish you a speedy recovery. So get strong and start blogging because 'Cafe Nukkad' is quite empty without your presence.

I am requesting Senty for an attendance register, chalo mana ke kabhi Munn nahin karta kuch bolne ko per attendance to laga sakte hain na ?

Sweety is missing for a long time, I am sure she is doing something wonderful like compiling a book of poetry or something, Rekha, I know is almost at the verge of discovering a cure for diabetes, Sajeet is probably laying the foundation stone for his School for dyslexic kids and in the meanwhile managing some events in sydney , australia ! Bama is recovering, we know that. Dockaul is collecting more good music and pushing it for PUBLIC. and Ghaffar khan is probably selecting some poetry for sharing. Well, that takes care of almost all of the regulars here, but leaves only Senty and myself, so true to our reputation we don't do anything anyway, IT has its Perks, one of them is tremendous amount of free time for doing Nothing at all.

Come on guyz, say something, anything, Speak up, I can only assure you that however silently, YOU ARE BEAING HEARD, so ..lets get it started...

I am also trying to catch up on the goings on in srgmp lilchamps..just a few more weeks left for the finale.

Attendance register .. hmm.. maybe we should have a clock-in and clock-out timesheets too. That way we'll know who was here the longest and maybe give out an award ;-)

BTW, anybody has any recommendation of latest music releases? Filmi or non-filmi? Please do share !

Thanks very much for the birthday wishes. The lab people got samosa and jalebi as treats.

Even though it is late, lots of best wishes on your birthday for a prosperous year ahead.

I hope you are right and 2008 year brings some real good news (for me, publications and grants will do). By the way, do you also think that Aquarians really have to struggle and work twice as hard to accomplish anything.

Ya, I am watching Lil Champs but lately I was very disappointed to see how Suresh and Sonu are trying to protect their favorites, Rohan and Vasu. I am still under the influence of 'Taare Zameen Par' so can not say who is better than who. All of these little kids have their strengths and weaknesses. Last week, both Rohan and Vasu were in danger zone so judges decided to skip elimination. This week outcome will be interesting.

    Best regards,

  146. Senti G,
    Salam/Namaste, May I come in?
I am so sorry for coming so late, no excuses but I am so lazy. Actually I came back to Calgary in February after a 2 month trip to Pakistan. After returning, my job location was changed and the company put me on a new project assignment, so Feb/March have been very busy and tiring. ALthough I managed some time to go through our blog but couldn't write as I kept postponing. Any way I will try to be in touch from now on.

The credit for getting out of laziness to write something for the sake of getting into "Hazri Register" goes to Mehfil G who pushed all the regulars to write something.
I also want to extend my appology to Dr. kaul for very very late reply to his mail where he asked me to list some good songs of Attaullah Esakhelvi (Pakistani folk singer). Although I conveyed it to him through mail but he hasn't come back to me. So Dr. sahb! again sorry and my favourite song of Attauallha is "Jhok ranjhan di jana". Do listen to it if you haven't before.
    Mehfil G,
In my view the reason for our bloggers not to participate on regular basis is two-fold. First and most important is the absence of a global show/Program (like SRGMP) to express their views. The other is the busy life circle which hardly allows to spare time for extra curricular activities. I can understand your frustration (as sometimes I have time window to chat with my friends but they don't) but its the way how it goes in life.
I want to dedicate one sher to you (some one correct me if I do mistake as I have poor memory)
"Jo bhi ae hai bethe hai nazdeek tere - Hum kahan tak tere pehlu se sirakte jain" little bit of translation is "who ever comes in your mehfil(company), tries to sit near you. How far I have to distance myself from you (to accommodate the coming one!!!)

I think I have spoken enough (more than what Mehfil have expected) and now time to say bye. But before going my regards to all the respectful bloggers including Rekha G, Dr. Kaul, Sweety G, Ashraf G, and Ghaffar khan.
    Have nice time.

Thanks for returning to the lately-soona-soona blog. I havent been able to keep up with the blog coz of the reason #2 you’ve listed. But not to fikar, I believe srgmp 08 is in the pipeline so I am sure it will be fun to watch the show and share thoughts as before. For now, I do try to catch a TV show here and there… but am not watching any one as dil se as I did srgmpC07.
There is “K for Kishore” airing on Sony TV that’s sort of ok. Many of the singers are not newbies, but a wee bit experienced. What I like about this show is the songs ofcourse.. all Kishore Kumar songs. It made me realize just how difficult it is to sing a KK song like KK.

Since its been a while this could be kal ka akhbaar…
A little while back, TV promos mein RACE bahot chhaya hua tha. Its still playing in the “now running” section. So I happened to hear the new Atif Aslam song “Pehli nazar mein”. I was like “wow !”. I really like this dude. He sings with bahot “feel” se. So I looked it up and downloaded the song and was wowing over it for a while.

Pritam …? Music is by Pritam? A big giant special WOW !!

So I had to dig deeper .... Pray, what might be the blessed original song?
Guess Koreans don’t care to get curious about a particular Saif Katrina Kaif movie from Bollywood. So the “Pehli nazar” team should be safe. But hats off to Pritam … if not for him we wouldn’t hear these great tunes from duniyaan ke kone kone se. Kisske paas itna time hai bhai….ki sab karam kaaj chhodke Korean gaane sune. The original song goes “Sarang hae yo” .. Guess it means "At first sight.." I dunno.
Youtube mein dekha.. it’s a nice romantic song. Didn’t know even Koreans sang in city buses :-) ekdum bollywood style mein ! Jeez !! .. maybe they do watch bollywood afterall ! Oopsie !
But.. I still like Pritam’s version. Kamaal ka inspiration hai bhai !

Basit, the sher you have pesh karofyed in honor of Mehfil is very nice ! Kinda makes one feel guilty ki one is forgetting old buddies to make time for new ones !

Lately I am hooked on to the piano tunes of olden goldies by Brian Silas. He is truly amazing. Listen to “jaane kahan gaye who din..” Best kind of music to play in the background when u r busy with some important stuff in life.. like doing some work at work :-)

Do check out a few of his tunes here :

    Enjoy !

  148. Hi All,
There has started a good program which you all must know, Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar on Start Plus TV. Former and new champions of II and SVOI are taking part as well as the runners up and other ones who came close. The format of JJWS is interesting, the chalengers are pitted against the champions.
I am watching this program for the guy called TOSHI (from SVOI. After Mussarat, if some one impressed me, it was Toshi due to his voice range and classical skills. But it seems he is not enjoying there due to some reasons not known. The compere asks almost every participant for their comments but ignores Toshi. The songs in which he excelled in SVOI, are not coming with feel in this show. Any way I wish him all the best for future episodes.
The other good thing about this show is that the judges appointed are good ones and well respected i.e. Vishal-Shekhar and Farah Khan. Also 50% decision is in judges hand so the chances are that the good singers will not be eliminated soon.
Hope we will start little bit of chat on this show. See you soon, have good time.

That sounds interesting. I like the idea of challengers vs champions. But I dont get Star unfortunately. If there are some notable performances I am sure they will be youtubed. If you already know the links, sure do share with us.
There is a Sony show called "Yeh shaam mastani" which is not a competition, but every week a celebrity singer/musician performs live in front of a small studio audience. Yesterday it was Shankar M of Shankar E Loy fame. I believe next week its Sunidhi Chauhan. The show is refreshing .. no nakhras.. just up close and personal with the singer and some of their hits performed live.

Are you watching "Ek se badhkar ek" on Zee? It has some of the srgmp C07 Raja, Sumedha, Poonam, Aneek and Harpreet along with some TV stars in a music/dance jodis competition. Its a weird show, but fun. The host is Ravi Kishen (thats what is weird about this show :-) ) who is sort of annoying actually. Very loud and over-dramatic. He reminds me of an extremely hyper Anu Kapoor of olden days "Anthakshari", hosting an auction sale.
But its good to see good ol Raja, Poonam, harpreet etc in this show.

  161. A meeting with Mussarrat: Hi Senty/DocKaul/Mehfil & other Aluminis of this blog, I am sick of my laziness not to surf the blog regularly. But this time I might be forgiven for some thing interesting to share. Mussarat Abbas is in Canada these days. He is part of some Pakistani singers group on this tour. After Vancouver, he was here in Calgary on 4th Jul. I grabbed this opportunity and attended the music program. I got the chance to have a little meeting with Mussarat. He was candid in the brief discussion and told he is desperate to release his album BUT! He is having difficulties in getting all the resources in place due to different factors prevailing in Pakistan. Mainly he doesn’t have a support from the current (ill) music industry, recording companies demands, monopoly of typical musician families etc. Etc. But all this comes down to financials where he needs support. “My lyrics, tunes are very much prepared for my first album, I am arranging my financials to market and do it properly” I could see his desperation to showcase his hard work in music. I promised to do some thing for him in my capacity and request Mussarat fans here in this blog to come forward and support him in launching his 1st album.
Mussarat is currently in Toronto where he has to perform in a show on 24th of July and after that he will return to Pakistan. You may contact him at his temporary cell no. In Canada [1-778-241-2071], and his permanent contact in Pakistan: [+92-321-429-4408]
I will keep you posted on this blog for any further updates. Or I may be reached at my email given below for any information, suggestion etc.
